Volaticus is the name of a visual novel/pick-your-own-adventure idea I came up with a couple of years ago. I was reminded of its existence recently and decided to revisit the character designs. There's already a watercolor painting I did of the above two characters in my deviantART gallery, but I took the girl's uniform for TW's Temperance, so a redesign was required...

The one on the left is the character that the player would play as in the game. I call him Player S for now.
The one on the right can be named by the player. I call her Ren.

^ Catticus, a rather important higher-up in the guardian department. Not your typical "magical kitty".

The story's a bit complicated, but there's a lot of Heaven and guardian angels and the like involved. S is a certified guardian angel who is training Ren. She's still earning her license, hence the reason why her halo looks like there's a chunk missing from it -- the closer she is to certification, the more complete it will appear. There's a reason why S' halo is square, but that's a story for another time.

Also, only guardian angels are allowed to have halos.

^ Brother and sister, still unnamed. They're very young, maybe 14.

At the beginning of the story, they're sent to Earth to investigate the disappearance of another guardian angel, and also look after the human that the angel left behind. (Why? They were literally the only ones who had their hands free.) There, they also meet a wandering ghost and a "grim angel" who is hunting her down. Turns out they were actually brother and sister in the living world.

^ Despite his young age, the brother was able to become a certified grim angel in a short amount of time. I designed the scythe with simplicity in mind.

The grim angel doesn't want to bring his sister to purgatory (he's afraid that she'll end up in a less-than-desireable place). He was assigned to bring her soul with him, but he doesn't go near her at all, so she doesn't know he exists. As a result, she can only walk around and try to make people notice her. Her brother keeps rogue angels away from her.

S and Ren try to interfere, because if the girl stays as a ghost for too long, she'll fade away -- but the brother is fiercely protective and won't allow it, despite knowing the consequences of not doing his job. Meanwhile, they try to uncover the reason why the other guardian angel disappeared...
